To get widgets out of the sidebar in WordPress:
- Go to Presentation >
Widgets. - Click the widget you don’t want anymore and drag it down to
the "Available Widgets" box before releasing it. It must be below the
words "Available Widgets" before you release it (even if it’s in the
blue area). The other boxes in the Available Widgets will move when
you have it in the right place. - Then drop it.
- Click Save Changes and
it should be out of your sidebar for good!
@thepearladyThanks for the update! I think this actually might be my mistake; I might have used a WordPress.org (self-hosted) blog instead of WordPress.com. Even I get them confused sometimes!
@JimThat’s strange; I did this exclusively in Firefox. Is this a WordPress.com/.org problem, perhaps?
Tried above no joy in FireFox but does work perfectly in IE. Have not tried on other browsers yet.
update: there’s been a new WP upgrade! It’s still pretty easy, though, but slightly different.
1. go to Design > widgets.
2. On the left, it shows you the current widgets available for the theme you’re using. On the right, it shows you what themes you’re using now. To remove one you’re using: find the one you want to remove. click “edit” and click remove.
3. Save changes.
I hope that helps! 🙂
